Gourmet Scans (General Review)

Unlike typical aggregator sites that proudly steal from others, Gourmet Scans is arguably worse because they pretend to be a legitimate, high-quality scanlation group. They set up Discord servers, ask for donations (Patreon/Ko-fi), and yet provide quality that is indistinguishable from a free Google Translate bot. What makes them so infuriating? • The Illusion of Quality: They ask readers for money to "support the translators," but it is painfully obvious that they just dump the Korean or Chinese raws into Papago or DeepL. The grammar is stiff, unnatural, and filled with robotic phrasing. • Predatory Sniping: They deliberately target series that have just been picked up by smaller, passionate teams. Because they use MTL, they can release 5 chapters in the time it takes the passionate team to perfectly translate 1 chapter. The passionate team eventually gives up, and then Gourmet Scans drops the quality even further once they have a monopoly. • The "Fast Pass" Scam: They often lock their garbage-tier MTL chapters behind a paywall on their website, forcing desperate readers to pay money for translations they could have generated themselves using a free app. Gourmet Scans is the definition of a scanlation scam. Do not give them your clicks, and definitely do not give them your money.
